Brief Encounter (1946)

Peter's night
Salad, Pizza, Homemade Brownies

(Stuart still in Cannes, Pamela back from Peterborough)

DavidLean.com is an extensive site about the director. Noel Coward was instrumental in Lean's career, first co-directing In Which We Serve (1942) with Lean and then championing him as solo director in This Happy Breed (1944) by the time of Brief Encounter, Lean was known as Coward's protege.

Kevin Brownlow's biography of David Lean is a real page-turner.

George Orwell's provoking and essential essay Politics and the English Language was written in 1946, the year Brief Encounter was made.

Lenny (1974)

Nora's night
Salad, Pizza, Klondike bars

(Stuart away in Cannes)

The use of doc form in a based-on-true-story narrative is very interesting to PG for obvious reasons.

When will All That Jazz (1979) show up on DVD?

Note, as an experiment, I've made the last couple of movies clickable links, rather than just static titles. Let's see if this proves useful!
